Event Photography Pricing NZ: What It Costs in Wellington

"How much will it cost?" is nearly always the first question I get from event organisers, and it should be easy to answer. Hey, I'm Andy, an event photographer in Wellington, and I publish all of my prices. This guide covers what event photography costs, how many hours you are likely to need, what is included and what changes the price.

How Much Does an Event Photographer Cost in Wellington?

My event photography costs $350 for 1 hour, $630 for 2 hours, $910 for 3 hours, $1,160 for a half day and $1,800 for a full day. Prices are in NZD and include GST, travel within the greater Wellington region is included, and multi-day events get 10% off the total.

CoveragePrice (NZD, incl GST)Per hourGood for
1 hour$350$350Speeches, an award handover or a short presentation
2 hours$630$315Product launches, networking evenings and smaller functions
3 hours$910About $303Christmas parties, gala arrivals through to the awards
Half day$1,160Fixed priceHalf-day conferences, seminars and longer galas
Full day$1,800Fixed priceFull-day conferences, festivals and multi-session events

Longer bookings work out cheaper per hour, so if you are torn between two lengths, the longer one is usually better value. You can see these prices next to my corporate, real estate and video prices on my photography pricing page.

How Many Hours of Event Photography Do You Need?

Start with your run sheet. The coverage needs to run from the first moment that matters to the last one, not just the formal part.

  • 1 hour: a single speech, a ribbon cutting, an award handover or a short presentation
  • 2 hours: most launches, networking evenings and smaller functions, covering arrivals, the formalities and some mingling
  • 3 hours: evening functions and Christmas parties, from arrivals through the speeches or awards and into the start of the party
  • Half day: half-day conferences and seminars, and galas with a long programme
  • Full day: full-day conferences, festivals and events with several sessions

If you are not sure, send me your run sheet and I will suggest the right length. I would rather tell you that 2 hours is enough than sell you a half day you do not need.

What Is Included in the Price

Every event booking includes:

  • A chat before the event about your run sheet, the must-have shots and any VIPs or sponsors who need extra attention
  • Arriving early to photograph the venue, the set-up and your branding before guests arrive
  • Candid coverage of speeches, presentations, awards and guests, without getting in the way
  • Professional editing of every image I deliver
  • A private online gallery delivered within 24 hours
  • A commercial usage licence, so you can use the photos in your marketing
  • Travel within the greater Wellington region

What Changes the Price

  • Length of coverage. This is the biggest factor, and the table above covers it.
  • Multi-day events. Conferences and festivals that run over two or more days get 10% off the total.
  • Travel further afield. For places like the Wairarapa, the Kapiti Coast or Hawke's Bay, a travel fee applies.
  • Add-ons. Instant guest photo sharing with SpotMyPhotos, a same-day rush selection, custom branding and backdrops are optional extras, listed on the pricing page and priced with your quote.
  • Video. If you want a highlight video of the event as well, I quote that to your brief. See my video production in Wellington.

Event Booking or Corporate Booking?

If your event is part of a bigger day and you also need brand or team photos, a corporate half day ($1,700, up to 4 hours) or full day ($2,200, up to 8 hours) can combine both in one visit. See corporate photography in Wellington for what those sessions cover. For a function on its own, the hourly event prices above are the better fit.

How to Get an Exact Quote

Send me:

  • The date, the venue and your start and finish times
  • Your run sheet, even if it is a draft
  • Roughly how many guests you expect
  • The shots you cannot do without, and what the photos will be used for

I will confirm availability and the right length of coverage within 24 hours. If you are still planning, my event photography planning timeline and checklist walks through what to sort out and when.
